OTL Attracts Attention During Testing of South Florida’s Newest Show Fountain

The vivid colors and lively music of Gulfstream Park’s 11-story bronze Pegasus statue and show fountain drew the attention of media and residents alike when OTL show fountain designers and programmers tested control panels and systems.

Over several days in mid-December, the press and locals got a sneak peek at what promises to be a visual extravaganza involving the interplay of 14 pieces of music, 350 fog nozzles and 116 water nozzles with LED lighting.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel and CBS Channel 4 Miami covered the testing, which also resulted in the impromptu pulling over of cars when drivers caught a glimpse of the iconic statue bathed in white and red lights. The colors were selected by OTL programmers to tell the story of how a mythical winged stallion slays a fire-breathing dragon.

In addition to dramatic statue lighting and fog effects, the show fountain’s choreography and LED lighting, in a full spectrum of colors, support the classic imagery of good’s dominance over evil. Water movement, tempo and lighting change with each of 14 pieces of music selected to pair dynamic rhythms with moving, inspirational compositions. Music selections range from Whitney Houston’s The Star Spangled Banner to Queen’s We are the Champions.

“The nozzles are our actors and we are the directors and producers,” OTL President Hugh Hughes said to Susannah Bryan, contact reporter for the Sun Sentinel. “Pegasus and the dragon are the stage. It’s water, but we’ve figured out how to manipulate it to do what we want so we can entertain the crowd.”

The musical fountain show will take place on the hour.
