OTL Project Update: Construction Complete in San Mateo, California

After many months of hard work and close coordination, OTL is delighted to announce that the new Show Fountain at Hillsdale Shopping Center is now complete and operational.

As part of developer Bohannon Development Company’s vision for a fresh, modern retail center, OTL designed and constructed this landmark fountain featuring artistically designed planters created by landscape architect Lifescapes International.

In fact, the fountain and plantings have been recognized as public art, a kinetic experience animated with complex lighting and dancing jets unlike anything else in the San Mateo community.

OTL’s technical team worked diligently to ensure that each of the fountain’s systems was installed with efficiency and sustainability, delivering a product that minimizes water lost to evaporation – an important facet of the design for this California project.

From an artistic perspective, the OTL creative team took this project to a new level, integrating more than 142 color-changing LED lights and 71 individually controlled aerated nozzles to create unique dancing water shows set to a playlist of customized music for the project and fountain. Because this fountain is unlike any other show fountain, the process of programming the shows was a unique experience as well, requiring a different, more detailed approach.

The project, which was completed in just under 10 months, is wrapping up just in time for the holidays, giving retailers and guests the opportunity to experience an entertainment landmark like no other in the region.

While the official Grand Opening for the Hillsdale Shopping Center is slated for Spring 2019, the project’s new show fountain is opening alongside a handful of retailers, offering a “soft opening” for the community.

OTL will certainly be present at the Grand Opening, and is looking forward to seeing this center and this fountain become a favorite destination for guests and visitors in San Mateo for years to come.
