CHRISTUS Health Headquarters

While CHRISTUS Health has called Irving, Texas home for more than a decade, in 2023, the international health system opened its brand-new corporate headquarters. The 460,000 square-foot, 15-story tower houses 2,000 CHRISTUS Health associates and offers a bevy of amenities to support both staff and patients.  

Featuring an amenitized lobby with a coffee bar and outdoor café, an indoor fitness center, outdoor fitness lawn, a conference center, a food hall, and several large outdoor terraces, this impressive building also houses a museum and a chapel, and step-out balconies for plenty of fresh air opportunities.  

Idea 

To welcome staff, clinic patients and guests to the headquarters, OTL was asked to design and build a water feature that would set the tone for the dramatic main entrance.  

Drawing inspiration from the native landscaping and the surrounding area, the OTL team created a series of symmetrical concrete water elements set over a collection of luminous glass rocks, with water bubbling up through the center of each shape to cascade over the sides.  

Because the design consisted of so many complex, acute angles, especially at the water discharge points, the OTL team needed to work closely with the concrete team to ensure the angles were set as accurately as possible.  

Once the concrete work was complete, more than four tons of decorative glass rocks were placed at the base of the black granite water elements. To ensure the beautiful water feature would stand out both day and night, DMX-controlled fiber optic strands were installed to illuminate the glass rocks from below, creating a stunning array of colorful light that is especially striking after dusk.  

Impact 

The gradual, geometric design creates an impactful first impression as guests, patients and staff approach the building, with soothing sounds and vibrant lights guiding the path to and from the main entrance.
