PROJECT ENGINEER

The PROJECT ENGINEER is responsible for assisting their assigned Project Manager in the planning, management direction, project completion, client satisfaction, and financial outcome of assigned projects for the company as further outlined below. The primary responsibility is to provide technical and administrative support on the projects, as well as to provide support to the Vice President of Project Management. The project engineer is a full time; exempt position and will report to the Vice President of Project Management.

Roles & Responsibilities

The primary role is to support project management and field operations completing tasks as assigned, which will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Review of contract documents, plans & specifications to thoroughly understand project scope
  • Understand safety programs and provide assistance in the field & ensure adherence at project level
  • Perform take-offs and material quantity calculations:
    • Project coordination, project controls & document control
    • Preparing & distributing submittals & RFIs to project team and field
    • Production tracking of self-performed work, job cost analysis & cost at completion calculations
    • Development, management & updating project schedule
    • Perform important administrative functions for the Project Manager (updating the project schedule, taking minutes at meetings, making phone calls to vendors and suppliers, responding to e-mails and writing progress reports to the project team)
    • Support field operations with special needs as requested
    • Issuing purchase orders & reviewing accounts payable invoices for correct pricing
    • Management and tracking of subcontractors & vendors of fabricated items
    • Preparation of project close out documents such as as-builts, O&M manuals & warranty documents

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • The project engineer position will require excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management, staff, clients and vendors
  • Be a self-motivated individual and display initiative, with good time management skills and the ability to manage multiple and sometimes competing priorities effectively
  • The project engineer must be reliable and able to report to work each day on time
  • Familiarity with construction documents and the ability to read and interpret complex drawings
  • Excellent organizational skills are required as well as the ability to function well independently with limited supervision and also work well within a team
  • The project engineer must be computer literate, technically competent and fluent in English
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required
  • It would be an added advantage for the project engineer to have a four-year degree in engineering or construction management plus prior experience in the construction industry

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The project engineer will be working in both office and field environments that require bending, kneeling, or stooping in confined spaces, walking up and down stairs, ladders and inclines, maneuvering on job sites that may be uneven and contain various hazards such as open holes, working with their hands and various tools occasionally, raising or lowering objects from one level to another, lifting, carrying and moving objects weighing as much as 50 pounds.
