Team Spotlight: Getting to Know OTL’s Manager of Technical Services, Research & Development Jason Baldwin

Posted in Insights -

During 2020, in our newsletter and throughout our social media platforms, we began spotlighting team members who are key to the success of our company.

While OTL is known throughout the USA and internationally for designing and building magnificent water features, rockwork and themed environments, our company’s true foundation is our people. OTL simply would not be the same without our incredibly talented, dedicated, and caring team.

This month’s Team Spotlight is devoted to Jason Baldwin, OTL’s manager of technical services, research & development. Jason has been with the company for eight “fun-filled” years and is responsible for the company’s R&D programs, technical oversight of our maintenance operations, tech integration into our projects, and audio system design. He is essential to ensuring our technical and maintenance services are state-of-the-art to keep the water features we design, build, and maintain running optimally.

Jason discussed with us his favorite project since joining OTL, his greatest accomplishment, future goals, and more:

Favorite project: “My favorite project since I have been with OTL is Texas Live! because it uses a nozzle we designed. This project also has fire effects, which are great because they’re unexpected and incorporate well with the rest of the water feature without looking like you simply stuck a torch in the water feature and called it ‘fire.’ The fact that we have full control of where and how high the fire burns in and on the water column makes it magical.”

Greatest accomplishment at OTL: “My greatest accomplishment with OTL is ongoing and growing greater: monitoring our water feature systems and enabling us to diagnose and make changes to them from almost anywhere. This gives us the ability to update schedules; test equipment; check breakers, GFCIs, wind, audio systems, and more. The list keeps getting longer as OTL technology expands.”

Fun fact about Jason: “The saying ‘Do what you love and you won’t work a day in your life’ holds true for me. After 22 years of playing with technology and playing in water, I am still having fun and learning something new every day.”

Aspirations for the future: “I am looking forward to developing new toys and systems for water features to come. If you can feel relaxed, inspired, or in awe with one of our projects, then we have done our job. Finding better ways to design, build, run, and maintain these projects is the best accomplishment, but the key here is making it seamless and intuitive. The best technology is the kind you don’t have to think about – that is what I aim to accomplish.”
