Team Spotlight: Getting to Know OTL’s Vice President of Operations, John Cunningham

Posted in Insights -

During 2020, in our newsletter and throughout our social media platforms, we began spotlighting team members who are key to the success of our company.

While OTL is known throughout the USA and internationally for designing and building magnificent water features, rockwork and themed environments, our company’s true foundation is our people. OTL simply would not be the same without our truly talented, dedicated, and caring team.

This month’s Team Spotlight is devoted to John Cunningham, OTL’s vice president of operations. John has been with the company since October 2016 and plays the crucial role of keeping our team’s operations running smoothly and efficiently. John brought his deep expertise as a field engineer, project manager, construction manager, and manager of continuous improvement operations at several well-established firms to OTL, and we benefit from his solid business acumen every day.

John shared with us his thoughts on the company and his role:

Favorite project: “The Legacy West show fountain in Plano, Texas, is undoubtedly my favorite OTL project. I live in Dallas, so as soon as I joined the OTL team I was able to get involved in the project, to help complete the construction and transition to annual maintenance with a very important client. I was able to see all the design, construction, and technical aspects of an OTL project come together, work with key vendors, really immerse myself with the entire OTL team. I have also had the ongoing pleasure of seeing the residents, merchants, and patrons at Legacy West enjoy what we built there.”

Greatest accomplishment at OTL: “I am helping to implement some continuous improvement–related tools and capabilities around planning and reporting. This effort will help us build on a strong operational foundation and position ourselves for growth and new opportunities that are on the horizon.”

Fun fact about John: “I am both a card-carrying Texan (by birth) and Quebecer. I have been a dual citizen of Canada since 2000.”

Aspirations for the future: “We are in such an interesting industry that cuts across art, design, technology, performance, and very specialized construction. I really look forward to helping OTL grow and evolve as technologies change and new types of opportunities appear. There are exciting times ahead for us!”
